It was your day.
Keep the dress that way.

Why it matters now

The stains you can't see
are the ones that ruin it.

The night ofSix months later

Champagne, cake, punch and white wine all dry clear. Nobody sees them the night of the wedding. Months later they oxidize and turn brown, and a gown that looked perfectly clean when you hung it up comes out of the closet with yellow marks down the front.

That is the most common thing we see, and it is the whole reason a gown shouldn't sit. There is no deadline here and no rule about when you have to bring it in. A lot of brides drop the dress off on the way out of town and pick it up when they are back from the honeymoon.

How it works

Four steps, and only one of them is yours.

1

Bring it in

No appointment. Come by during store hours with the gown as it is.

2

We look at it with you

At the counter, so you hear what we are seeing and what it will take.

3

We clean it

Fabric by fabric, with the hem given the time it actually needs.

4

Add preservation

If you want to keep it, we box it for long term storage.

How we handle it

Every gown gets looked at
before anything happens to it.

No two gowns are built the same, so we don't put them all through the same process. We look at the fabric, the beading, the lining and the label, then decide what that dress can safely take. Most of it is careful hand work and hand finishing.

The hem is almost always the real job. A gown drags across a floor, a lawn and a parking lot for twelve hours, and the bottom of it comes back carrying all of it. That part takes time, and it gets it.

The part nobody mentions

Preservation.

Cleaning gets the dress back to white. Preservation is what keeps it that way.

Once your gown is clean we pack it into an acid free box with a window in the lid. The acid free part is the part that matters. Ordinary cardboard and tissue turn acidic as they age and yellow a dress from the outside in, so a gown put away in a box off a shelf can come out worse than it went in. The window means you can keep it in a closet and still see it, without unpacking the dress every time you want to look.

Some brides are saving it for a daughter. Some just want to see it again someday.

Preservation is an option rather than something that happens automatically, so mention it when you drop the gown off and we will take care of it.

Questions brides ask

Good to know.

Do I need an appointment to drop off my gown?

Not for cleaning. Just bring it in during store hours. Fittings with Olga are by appointment.

How long does it take?

Plan on about two weeks. If you need it sooner than that, ask and we will usually find a way.

My dress has been in a closet for years. Is it too late?

Often not. Older stains are harder and we will not promise every one will come out, but bring it in and we will tell you honestly what we are looking at.

Do you clean bridesmaids' dresses and suits too?

Yes, along with the mothers' dresses and the groomsmen's suits.
